Following lockdown in London, Little Grim have been separated since March, but using their time to write and recording remotely from their bedrooms. ‘Chock-Full of Fun’ is the first of a number of songs which will feature on the band’s quarantine EP, which they will be releasing over the coming weeks. The song is available on their bandcamp page where all proceeds will be donated to the Save Our Venues campaign which aims to protect over 400 independent music venues from permanent closure during the pandemic.
Having had a wave of support with plays on Radio X with John Kennedy, BBC 6 Music with Tom Robinson, BBC Introducing, and Amazing Radio and featuring in the likes of CLASH, TMRW and Giglsutz, Little Grim were building up momentum for an exciting year of touring ahead, but have since changed their plans following the lockdown.
“Like everyone else in the world, we had our plans for the year majorly shifted during the pandemic outbreak” says Joe Murphy, lead singer of the band. “We decided it would be a good time to experiment with some new ideas and work on new songs. The new EP will be made up entirely of songs written during the lockdown period.”
“‘Chock-Full of Fun’ is a song that’s narrative peeps through the keyhole of an obsessive and possessive partner. The lyrics explore the ways it can drive you to do and say mad things when you’re infatuated.”
The song was recorded at home in Peckham, self-produced by the band and mastered by Jonas Westling. It will be released on 10th July on the band’s own label, Ripple Red Records.
The band currently have a sold out show booked in a secret location in September and will be soon to announce more live dates for the rest of the year. Little Grim are Joseph Murphy (Vocals/Guitar), Jeremy Barclay (Guitar/Keys), Chris Alger (Bass) & Roger Muntzer (Drums).
lyrics
You were out late,
What excuse will you think of?
Whilst you fabricate the lie,
I’ll pick it apart
I can be chock-full of fun,
But you are for my eyes only,
We don’t need no-one,
With me, you’re not alone
Itching for some,
Bet your friends all think I’m crazy,
We don’t need no-one,
With me, you’re not alone
Waiting by the lamplight all night,
I’ll illuminate you,
You can tip toe around all you like,
But inquisition is my nature
I remember when I had you,
Loyal like a dog at the door,
But yesterday that changed,
I don’t feel you listening anymore
Why do you want to see me beg?
Do you want to see me beg?
Do you want to see me beg?
Why do you want to see me beg?
Do you want to see me beg?
Do you want to see me beg?
I can be chock-full of fun,
But you are for my eyes only,
We don’t need no-one,
With me, you’re not alone
Itching for some,
Bet your friends all think I’m crazy,
We don’t need no-one,
With me, you’re not alone
Oh, they don’t understand you like I do,
People think that you’re good for nothing,
I whisper in your ear cos you should know,
How much I love you’s got to count for something,
They don’t understand you like I do,
People think that you’re good for nothing,
I whisper in your ear cos you I think you should know,
How much I love you’s got to count for something
I can be chock-full of fun,
But you are for my eyes only,
We don’t need no-one,
With me, you’re not alone
Itching for some,
Bet your friends all think I’m crazy,
We don’t need no-one,
With me, you’re not alone
